The controversy surrounding the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl only continues to intensify as we learn more. However, despite the media blitz, some details seem to have been overlooked.
Here are five relevant but little-reported facts you may not know about #BergdahlGate:
1. In 2013, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney stated that the Obama administration would never remove Guantanamo prisoners without consulting Congress:
“As we have long said, however, we would not make any decisions about transfer of any detainees without consulting with Congress and without doing so in accordance with U.S. law.”
2. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid knew about the Bergdahl exchange, when the rest of Congress was left in the dark.
“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was the only congressional leader told in advance of the Obama administration’s controversial plans. He was informed on Friday, before Bergdahl’s release became public, he told reporters on Tuesday.”
